Setup Ubuntu 24.04 as a daily driver machine, detailed steps and troubleshooting
When I am writing this. Windows 11 is still buggy (can’t go sleep, sound output menu messing up, etc.), which wasted me tons of time. MacOS is fantastic and beautiful, but the more I use it, the more I feel the MacOS is growing out of my control, and even today, MacOS do not natively support SSHFS for remote file sharing, I know we can use some hacking way to enable it, but is still a surprise to me that MacOS don’t support it good. Even Windows 11 support SSHFS easily.
After some considerations, I decided to build a Ubuntu machine as my daily driver. So that I can fully control my OS and applications installed.
Linux machines usually are not ready to use out of the box, needs a lot of manual installation and configuration. Write all of my steps down here to help me and may also help you save some search time.
Ubuntu home page has full coverage on the detailed OS installations, I will skip these and focus on drivers, tools, and applications that usually take a lot of time.
Don’t judge my hardware, this old i7–6800k works extremely well with an RTX 3070 TI GPU connected to three 4k monitors. Even in 2024.
