How to solve the insurgent problem
In Gladwell’s book “David and Goliath”, he mentioned the North Ireland rebellion as the failure example.
“In Northern Ireland, the British made a simple mistake. They fell into the trap of believing that because they had resources, weapons, soldiers, and experience that dwarfed those of the insurgent elements that they were trying to contain, it did not matter what the people of Northern Ireland thought of them. General Freeland believed Leites and Wolf when they said that “influencing popular behavior requires neither sympathy nor mysticism.” And Leites and Wolf were wrong.” — Excerpt From: Malcolm Gladwell. “David and Goliath”
So, are there solutions to cure insurgent or terrorism issue? Yes
- Change the environment. provide opportunities, health care, education and ways to realize their personal value.
- If solution 1 doesn’t work, make the distributed organization centralized. when power centralized, they will divide from their internal, and fight each other, fall apart from inside.
- Work with grassroots, tightly, share information with them , protect them, and fight with them.
- Force and weapons won’t solve the problem, ideology can.
